UPDATE: Chile's Earthquake Story: An Honest Perspective/ACTUALIZACIÓN: El Terremodo De Chile: Una Perspectiva Honesta

It would certainly appear that the message portrayed in our recent post regarding the Chilean earthquake was fairly 'on the mark'. The Huffington Post recently published figures from Oxfam's latest efforts to raise funds for the victims of this tragedy. Seemingly, people in more fortunate countries are suffering from "Giving Fatigue". Is this the case? Do we live in a World where people can simply grow tired of natural disasters and say "erm...not this time, I have done my good deed for the year"?
As facts and figures pour in regarding the extent of the damage caused as a result of the Chilean earthquake it has become apparent that while the death-toll is 'minor' compared to that of the Haiti disaster, the topographical, or simply put the destruction of property and homes etc. is steadily overshadowing the initial $2 billion dollar estimates. Images from throughout the country and it's news outlets are showing the level of chaos and damage caused. At the moment, all but Marshall law has been declared in the most damaged areas, curfews have been put in place in some of the towns and villages and in more extreme cases, troops and police are having to 'resort' to violence to prevent looting and petty theft by some in desperate need.

As I asked in the previous post regarding Chile, while their economy is one of the strongest in Latin America, will it be deemed fair if the same efforts aren't made by the international community? Chile has yet to ask for much in the way of international aid, but their time is near. As stats regarding damages roll in and the number of fatalities inflates, they will most likely appreciate a helping hand. Will we be prepared to lend it? Or is it 'too soon' for us all our 'idols' in the entertainment industry to come together in solidarity to help the struggling Chileans? Will promoters simply say that consumers aren't ready for another natural disaster relief effort? Or, will we be surprised and see our heroes come together in a tireless effort to help?
