Crystal Swing-Showband Sensation or Tragically Traumatising?

Crystal Swing are the latest music craze to take Ireland by storm. Thanks to the influence of social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook along with their YouTube videos gaining thousands of hits in the space of a few hours it makes me wonder, what is it that has caused this media frenzy?

Their music video, "She Drinks Tequila" shows the group (who are all part of the same family) dancing from side to side exchanging cheeky embraces and grins with the camera as the mother playfully takes control of the keyboard (and quite comically too, might I add) as the brother and sister sing passionately with lines such as,
You're so naughty, kiss my body, and just call me pretty
,to one another.
If you think this is a joke, as the owner of the YouTube video says,
"Yes, this is real."
Whatever your opinion may be of the music genre, the song is catchy and you'll want to watch it again and show it to your friends. Yes, in this day and age Country and Showband music would be considered slightly outdated and would be associated moreso with actively retired folks in nursing homes and in parts of rural Ireland. Crystal Swing certainly have been targeting this audience, it just so happens that the rest of the nation, along with other Irish overseas have been struck by the group's persona.
The question which is on everyone's minds however is: How? Is it the lack of mainstream talent in the Irish music industry at the moment? After all, Jedward who appeared on ITV's X Factor have shot to fame moreso because of their act, rather than their actual singing abilities. Or is it the recession? A lot of people use the recession as an excuse for things, maybe this is another reason. If anything, in these gloomy times it's giving a lot of people a laugh and music in Ireland a whole new dimension so to speak, possibly paving the way for more acts of this genre in the future.
However from looking at a lot of the YouTube comments, some which are demeaning and vulgar towards the members of the group, it makes one ponder if it's the Irish mentality of laughing and making fun out of things which has drawn attention to them? I mean, the average person wouldn't usually change the radio station if they heard a song like this and deem it to be psychological torture. That being said, there's no such thing as bad publicity, and I'm certain that this overnight success will do the group favours be it with publicity, finances or whatever.
According to their website, they have two albums already recorded and their music video, "He Drinks Tequila" has been featured on Rural TV. An appearance on The Late Late Show is also in the pipeline. What happens next for Crystal Swing? Only time will tell...
