Beauty is Fact
Every so often there are images of people, whether they are women or men that grace the covers of ‘in vogue’ magazines portraying the current ideas of human aesthetic perfection. These conveyances often are accepted by us, the public, and are thus the standard from which we gauge our own exteriors. We take them and adjust ourselves to fit into a mould that is, at least for the time being, accepted as the norm of physical elegance. In some cases the changes can be made with relative ease, in others people go to great lengths, occasionally extreme and dangerous, in pursuit of that golden cow that we call ‘it’.
This is where, perhaps, the term ‘it girl” came from. Someone most probably came up with the term and decided to label a young starlet with the moniker, casting her into the limelight and decreeing that she was the most, the best…”it”. The constant reoccurrence of these symbols of beauty often change with the fashions of the era and in some cases, dictate the fashions themselves. The changing nature of allure begs a question; if pulchritude isn’t consistent, what is beautiful?
To be able to define what is exquisite and convey this message to the masses is something that surely is a gift from somewhere unknown. The world is caressed with designers, critics and the like who feel entitled to tell us, that something’s are “hot” or they are “not”. These are obviously blessed individuals who have the ability to understand that the concepts of what is beautiful are not subjective but are based in truth and therefore ontologically concluded. They know. We should all listen to what they have to hear, they are obviously the chosen ones, channelling a god-given knowledge of something that we as mere and basic mortals cannot understand and need to have explained to us.
One’s efforts will go unrewarded if they seek to achieve acclaim for their own aesthetic manifestations. They do not have the power to invent themselves and market it as an appealing flavour to the world. It is clear that there are some better than others and therefore a clear line between the hand-picked beautiful and the general ugly. Those who wish to contradict these truths. Well, they will ultimately be ostracised for being rebels or alternatives, they shall be banished to the bowels of perdition, for it was they who dared to contest the doctrine bestowed upon them by their betters. Do they not understand that their critics are simply trying to instil a sense of community amongst them? Yet, they defy people within their society who clearly are aiming to afford the plebeian an aptitude for progression and prosperity.
So for being overweight in times when it is not considered appropriate to be so; shame on you. For being short when your peers make an effort to reach the stars; what is wrong with you? For possessing a complexion or skin tone that is not photogenic; pull your socks up. And for you, the person daring to simply be yourself, with notions of creating your own style or image that deviates from what you are told is best for you; may you be condemned to the eternal infernos.
For you should know that beauty is clearly fact.

Of course some will agree and disagree with the hinted moral of the above. But I find it hard to believe that, once you have thought about it, you will disagree with the underlying message of it.
Best,

P.S. Apologies for not posting anything in the past couple of months. Life outside of the web-realm has been rather hectic. But rest assured that we will be posting a lot (some up to date and some back dated musings as well, hopefully, our interview with Amber Rubarth and more). I've also noticed that a lot of you have checked in to the site and given us an admittedly undererved 50,000 hits during the minor hiatus...thanks so much, we'll try not to disappoint again!
